Gayatri Baisiwala is a figurative sculptor born in India and now resides in Atlanta, Georgia. She discovered her passion for clay two decades ago and has honed her skills ever since. She teaches at Callenwolde Fine Arts Center and also works full-time on her own sculptures. She has a keen eye for anatomy and sketching, which she uses to create realistic and expressive figures. During her residency at Buffalo Creek Art Center, she produced three stunning nude sculptures that will be cast in bronze and displayed at the ranch house.

“Buffalo Creek Art Center is this gorgeous oasis of tranquility and peace. It felt like home without the distractions of regular life. This month here has been one of the most creative times in my life, not just in terms of the sheer number of sculptures or sketches I made but also in terms of idea generation and thinking time. It is collaborative in a way few places are, part of the reason is that there are artists from different places as well as different mediums living together under one roof. Every day we would see each other work, sparking new ideas, helping each other, talking about several ways to arrive at something. Evenings would be swapping ideas and stories around the dinner table. The diversity of cultures and ideas and the team spirit was phenomenal! I can’t say enough about how enriching this experience has been. My motivation for coming here was to have the time and space to create without distractions and this definitely happened! This is a place where you can reach higher or go deeper than usual!”
