Cie Hoover is an artist and musician based in Ouray, Colorado. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Music Business from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. After over a decade in the Nashville music industry and touring full-time with the folk-rock duo You Knew Me When, Cie rekindled his passion for visual arts, focusing on woodworking inspired by the San Juan Mountains. His work has gained recognition, notably receiving the Mayor’s Choice Award at the Inaugural 610 Arts Collective Regional Arts Exhibition in April 2019. Cie continues to create art that reflects his deep connection to music and nature. “Existence” is a large outdoor wood sculpture Cei made for the property.
“I had two primary motivating factors in attending a residency BCAC. First, was the opportunity to bring a sculptural concept of mine to life in a large scale exterior setting. The second, was to learn and experiment with tools and resources that I would not regularly have access to. As my first long-term artist residency, I honestly did not know quite what to expect. That said, I went into the residency with an open mind and eager to embrace the opportunity. Overall, my time at BCAC was an amazing experience. The grounds and resources are inspirational and motivating, and it was surreal to be able to exclusively focus on art day in and day out without the distractions of daily life. I would recommend a residency at BCAC to any artist looking to expand their horizons.”
