Mark A. Wallis has designed and built original sculptures, furniture, and outdoor environmental works for over twenty years. His work has been collected across the USA and abroad. Known nationally for his freestanding kinetic sculptures that soar into space like a surreal drawing, Wallis continues his quest to create and explore new compositions in a variety of materials. Whether the artist is exploring the intrinsic qualities of exotic woods, bending quarter-inch steel, or placing fifteen-ton stones in a field, he maintains a fascination with serendipity and the art of process. “Prophet” is the welded metal sculpture Mark made for the park.

“I had the unique privilege and opportunity to be invited to participate in the artist in residency at the Buffalo Creek Art Center in Gardnerville, Nevada during the month of October.

Upon arriving, I discovered an amazing property that was filled with monumental sculptures from previous artists throughout the beautiful manicured landscape.

The staff was gracious and the facilities were quite impressive and very accommodating.

I was joined by three other artists and we all worked independently on our own projects.

I completed a very large sculpture for the BCAC which will be part of their permanent collection.

The total experience of being there was truly remarkable and I gained some personal insights and knowledge about my own life and work as a result of this process.”
