Amie J. Jacobsen is a designer, sculptor, and public artist based in the Kansas City area. She earned a BA in Studio Art from Western State Colorado and an MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she also taught from 2006 to 2015. Transitioning to metalworking in 2015, Amie became the in-house designer and resident artist at Machine Head, a metal fabrication shop in Kansas City’s Crossroads Art District. After securing her first large-scale sculpture commission, she established her own studio in Independence, Missouri, where she and her team create sculptures, artisan furniture, and public art pieces nationwide. Amie made “Libelle” a beautiful stainless steel dragonfly sitting next to one of the ponds in the BCAC sculpture park.

I expected that the shop was not going to be as well-equipped as it was and that it was going to be more difficult than it was. It turned out that the working environment was great – very comfortable and well-equipped. I brought many of my own supplies, knowing what I liked to use. But the facilities and living arrangements were comfortable and enjoyable. Definitely! I would encourage others to join in if they get the chance.”
