Helen Vergouwen (1960) is a Dutch artist, now living in France who creates geometric and organic forms from rusty steel. Her sculptures contrast open and closed, rough and smooth, inside and outside. Her work is intuitive, not calculated, and expresses emotion through form. She studied at St. Joost Academy in Breda, the Netherlands. She has exhibited and collected her work in many countries, such as Hungary, China, Italy, and Russia. Helen made two exquisite corten steel sculptures for the Buffalo Creek Art Center Sculpture Park.

“Thank you so much for the possibilité you have given me to make the 2 works! I’ve learned so much by working. Know now so much more how to handle big pieces. And I know now also I can make them.

I think an artist in residence has to be a learning process as well as an experimenting period. I’ve done both. And I went back to Europe with renew ideas and another view to my work and art in general.

This weekend will be the opening of the Pan Amsterdam. For the Netherlands an important Art fair. I’ll participate with Kunsthandel Meijer from Utrecht. This Gallery is very enthusiast about the work I’ve made in the US. Like me.”
