Jessica Bodner, a Montana and Hawaii resident has been making award winning metal sculptures for over twenty years. As a resident at Buffalo Creek Art Center she made “Balsa Luna” a bright yellow metal sculpture for the BCAC Sculpture Park.

“Buffalo Creek art center is a sanctuary for artists who need a break from the normal routine of city life or just are looking for something different, a new experience. With its tranquil gardens and numerous ponds, the property has much to offer an artist for inspiration. The shared studio space is suited for sculptors working in steel, clay, wood and mixed media. The property is a working orchard so there is a bustle of activity during the week, which makes for a good working atmosphere. Caretakers, Melody and Bill are fantastic hosts and offer up seasonal veggies straight from the garden for the artists to cook. Steve the founder and heart of the Center, is a great artist himself and often visits to discuss your project and art in general, he is building a legacy at the property through the sculpture park and the residency, BCAC is a real service to the art world.

I was not sure what to expect from doing a residency at Buffalo Creek but I am very happy I did. I created a large woven steel sculpture inspired by ancient mythology Titled: “Balsa Luna”, finished in marigold yellow, it is installed on the grounds of the sculpture park. In your off time at the residency, there are quite a few good local restaurants to dine at and if you’re up for a drive, Hwy 395 to the south offers up some incredible nature outings or if you want to check out Lake Tahoe it is a short trip up the mountain. I enjoyed my time at BCAC and the adventure getting there and back as well (I drove from my studio in Montana and camped along the way).”
