Lori Shorin is a figurative sculptor based in New York, inspired by intimate human connections. She earned a BFA from SUNY Binghamton, an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Certificate of Sculpture from the Florence Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited at venues such as the Museu Europeu d’Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, the Arnot Museum of Art, and the USC Fisher Museum of Art. Lori teaches at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and has launched the New York Figurative Art Atelier at the Art League of Long Island. Lori made “Eternal Quest,” a mixed-media sculpture now in the Buffalo Creek Art Center sculpture park.

“One of the greatest aspects of attending the artist residency at Buffalo Creek Art Center (BCAC) was being fully immersed in a creative environment with other artists without the distractions of every day life. I was attracted to the Buffalo Creek Art Center for several reasons:  The chief reason was the opportunity to create a large scale figure that would remain a part of the BCAC sculpture park, the beauty of the surrounding landscape, and the prospect of working alongside talented artists from around the globe.

Gardnerville, NV looks very different from where I live and presents a real contrast to what I see daily in the northeast. I was curious to know how spending time in the western part of the US would affect me and my work.

My experience waking up every day and seeing the vastness of the deep blue sky against the snow-capped mountains was awe-inspiring! It felt like my conciseness was lifted and expanded by the view my eyes were drinking in.

I knew ahead of my residency what I would create during my month-long stay. The after-effects of being an artist-in-residence at BCAC are still filling me with ideas for future projects.

The artist share-house is gorgeous, and the studios are spacious and well-appointed. They exceeded my expectations.

Bill and Mel, the caretakers, were supportive and take great pride in keeping the residency in tiptop shape.

I’m extremely grateful to Steve and Lana for creating such a wonderful artist residency. It was truly a gift at the exact right time! I hope whoever is reading this and is wanting to participate in the residency will
be as fortune as I have been to attend.”
