“I had been following BCAC on Instagram for a while and was impressed seeing the variety of sculptures being produced.  I was very honoured when Steve Hardy invited me to partake in a residency in 2024.

Mostly my professional arts practice has concentrated on designing and creating large public art sculptures. The opportunity to create a sculpture that would be placed permanently at BCAC allowed me a greater freedom of design and expression, not constrained by client requests and considerations.

The networking with international artists in a welcoming environment allowed constant flow of ideas, discussions and thoughts throughout the month.  In particular, I was introduced to a steel press and given great advice on how to use it, which was invaluable and fabulous team work. This enabled me to create some fantastic leaves for my sculpture, and I will be taking these ideas back to Australia with me.
The whole residency experience was uplifting as the September residency artists were awesome people and extremely talented artists.  Heartfelt thanks to Steve and all at BCAC.”
