“My residency stay at BAC was a pivotal experience. Having had worked with wood in an established way for several years, I wanted to challenge myself to develop a new approach to seeing the potential of the material. BAC was a great context within which to make that happen. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, set into the pocket of the eastern Sierra mountains with a view of the beautiful valley below. It was nothing if not expansive and set me up to imagine new possibilities within my approach…the landscape became an ever more vital part of responding to my material, shaping and manipulating the forms.

Working with the other resident artists (Steve included!) and the amazing tools and facilities that I was invited to use at any time of day or night really pushed me to explore. The evenings spent in the resident house discussing our studio work, lives and approaches was a gift that resulted in a very collaborative studio environment. “from buffalo to bear” was my first public sculpture; I am so proud of it and will long remember the process of its creation, the incredible team and the wonderful cohort of artists at BAC. Thank you, Steve, Lana, Bill and Mel!”
