An Erie, Pennsylvania native and 4th-generation welder by trade, Stempka began his career working on infrastructure and locomotives. Combining his impeccable craftsmanship with his artistic eye, he worked scrap metal into multiple objects, creating unique sculptures, and realized that this was his life’s path.

“My motivation to attend the residency at BCAC stemmed from its reputation for fostering a supportive and inspiring creative community. I expected a space to refine my techniques and connect with other artists, and the residency exceeded those expectations by providing invaluable feedback and collaboration opportunities.

I would tell another artist considering BCAC that it’s a transformative experience, offering both personal growth and a chance to build lasting professional relationships. Additionally, the serene environment and access to resources greatly enhanced my productivity.”
